А весной 1945 один из астраханских верблюдов участвовал во взятии Берлина. Верблюда звали Яшка. Призван на службу из калмыцкого села Яшкуль. Он был тем из немногих кто дошел до Победы. А ведь из Астрахани отправилось 350 животных. Грудь Яшки украшали ордена немецких генералов, а на спину водрузили плакат с надписью «Астрахань — Берлин».
По словам ветеранов, дослуживших до победы верблюдов после войны отправили в один из московских зоопарков, где они доживали свои последние годы.
